Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon qualify for U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan

Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon secured Africa’s three spots at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, finishing as the top three sides at the CAF U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s team, beat South Africa 1-0 in the second leg of their qualifying fixture in Tembissa, with Rasheedat Ajibade’s 28th minute strike.

With this win, the Nigerians qualify 7-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg 6-0 a fortnight ago in Abuja.

This will be their sixth appearance at the U-17 Women’s World Cup since they first qualified for the maiden edition in 2008.

At the 2014 U-17 World Cup in Costa Rica, the Flamingos got to the quarter-finals but lost 3-0 to Spain.

Ghana’s Black Maidens thrashed Morocco 6-0 on Saturday at the Accra Stadium to complete a 10-nil aggregate win after recording a 4-0 victory in the first leg a fortnight ago.

The Black Maidens are through to a fifth-straight FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana remains the only African country to have reached the semi-finals of the U-17 women’s competition after finishing third in the 2012 World Cup.

Cameroon and Egypt played out a tightly-contested encounter in their first leg meeting as hosts Cameroon edged their North African opponents 2-1 at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaounde.

The second leg was more one-sided, however, as a 4-0 win in Cairo saw Cameroon progress to the tournament for the first time.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016 will take place between 30 September and 21 October.
